Here is the roster for the next two World Cup Qualification Games against Montenegro (Podgorica at 20:45 local time) on the 28th, and the Republic of Ireland on 01 April in Bari (20:50 local time).

There are many new faces to complement to the core group.

Several Azzurri are out with injuries:

Acquilani (AS Roma), Bonera (Milan), Camoranesi (Juventus), Gattuso (long-term-Milan), Gilardino (Fiorentina), Legrottaglie (Juventus), Perrotta (AS Roma), and Toni (Bayern Munich).

Buffon (Juventus), Amelia (Palermo), De Sanctis (Galatasaray)

Bocchetti (Genoa), Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Chiellini (Juventus), Dossena (Liverpool), Gamberini (Fiorentina), Grosso (Lyon), Motta (Roma), Zambrotta (Milan)

Brighi (Roma), De Rossi (Roma), Foggia (Lazio), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Palombo (Sampdoria), Pirlo (Milan)

  • Pasquale Foggia of Lazio
  • Marco Motta of Roma
  • Giampaolo Pazzini of Sampdoria
On Yellow Cards
  • Chiellini

Missing Names

Once again, and perhaps Mr. Lippi is sending a clear message for the future, Antonio Cassano and Alessandro Del Piero were not selected. Cassano had only a few chances during the first reign of Mr. Lippi. Del Piero, who played for him at Juventus and many times in the Azzurri set up, seems to be out of favor.

Historic Event

The fixture against the Republic of Ireland should be very interesting.

Giovanni Trapattoni, the former Azzurri boss, manages the Republic. He is assisted by Azzurri World Cup legend, Marco Tardelli. To the best of knowledge, this will be the first time that a former Italian National Team manager has ever faced the Azzurri. In 1998 during the World Cup, Cesare Maldini came one game from facing his son and the rest of the Azzurri in France. He was managing Paraguay at the time.
