2009 CONCACAF Champions League

SOCCER: SEP 02 CONCACAF Champions League - Joe Public v Revolution

Beginning tonight in Houston, the Championship Round of the CONCACAF Champions League will begin. CONCACAF is the North and Central American region of world football.

The winner qualifies for the 2009 FIFA World Club Championship.

Teams will play a home and away series at each stage. As you can see, the tournament is dominated by Mexican clubs.

Houston Dynamo (The only American team).
Montreal Impact (Canada).
Puerto Rico Islanders (Puerto Rico)
Cruz Azul (Mexico)

Group 2

Atlante (Mexico)
Santos Laguna (Mexico)
Marathon (Honduras)
UNAM-Pumas (Mexico)

Montreal had a crowd of over 55,000 at Olympic Stadium for their first leg against Santos Laguna. Houston had about 10,000 for their game with Atlante.

Perhaps MLS should look north to the Olympic City for another Canadian franchise?
