Sir Sean Connery Had a Tryout with Manchester United

I was doing research on Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs, who recently reached the 100 game milestone in the Champions League, and came across an interesting item.

I had read that Sir Sean Connery was a Manchester United or Old Firm supporter, along with a fervent fan of Scotland. But I didn't know that his early life had an interesting aspect.

Many years ago, a young Sir Sean Connery had a tryout with fabled Manchester United. And he was good enough to be offered a contract.

Actually, he was asked to join the team by their legendary manager, Matt Busby, who years later died in the tragedy at Munich in 1958.
Matt Busby offered him the chance to join Manchester United. Connery turned him down. "It was a great temptation," he said, but football seemed an even more precarious career than the stage.

Football's loss was entertainment's gain.
