It was a year to commemorate Samba futebol. In a vote by captains and national team managers, Kaká and Marta were named the male and female players of the year.

Ricardo Kaká had a busy week. He helped AC Milan to the Club World Championship in Yokohoma, and then flew directly back to Europe to receive the FIFA award in Zurich. He is also an Ambassador for the United Nations Food Program.
"It's no small achievement being named FIFA Footballer of the Year," said Kaká, "But I am all too aware that I reached those heights because I had the chance to fully exploit my potential. I strongly believe that every child in the world must have the
same right."
"Marta, the 21-year-old Brazilian who scored more goals and left more hypnotic moments than any other player at the Women's World Cup, was similarly acknowledged as the female star of 2007."

Marta's World Cup semi-final game against the USA was a footballing lesson at the highest levels.

The video commentator said, "There are not words to describe Marta."

Now she is the repeat winner of the FIFA Player of the Year.
