The Houston Dynamo defended their championship with a 2 x 1 victory over the New England Revolution at the nearly sold-out neutral site of RFK Stadium in Washington.

A first half-goal by Taylor Twellman gave New England the lead at the break.

In the second half, goals by Joseph Ngwenya and Dwayne DeRosario brought the victory to Houston. DeRosario, a Canadian international, was named Man of the Match.
This loss was the fourth time in four attempts for New England at MLS Cup.
