Beckham Returns to the Galaxy

Injured since 29 August, yesterday David Beckham returned to train with the LA Galaxy. Here are a few excerpts from an article on MLS Net by Greg Daurio.

"I wasn't meant to be training today, but once I'm out there it felt good. Today went well but we'll just have to see how it is this afternoon and tomorrow," said Beckham. 'I'm still restricted on many things but overall it felt great...'

'(Beckham) looked great. He's amazing. I'm sure he'll probably be sore tomorrow, but he looked fine,' said Landon Donovan. 'I don't know how long until he plays but I would assume he's not playing this weekend. But he's going to help us when he gets back...'

The most ambitious hope would seem to be that Beckham will be healthy in time for the Oct. 13 match against the New York Red Bulls."

The Galaxy have been playing much better lately, and are still in contention for a playoff spot. No doubt the return of Beckham will assist that effort. Along with gate receipts. ;-) But getting back to the topic of MLS playoffs. Why should a team with a poor record such as the Galaxy be rewarded with a potential playoff berth? Where they could end up the MLS Champion? If MLS is to be taken seriously abroad, we need to implement promotion and relegation dogfights. Not these token playoff spots to virtually half of the league.
