Mister Donadoni Releases His Roster for Euro 2008 Qualifiers against France and Ukraine

This evening, Coach Roberto Donadoni released his selections for the two key upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against France (in Milan) and Ukraine (in Kiev I believe). Marco Materazzi is injured and will not be available. Fabio Cannavaro and Luca Toni were selected, but are doubtful due to injuries of their own. Alessandro Nesta recently retired from international competition, and will be sorely missed. Especially if Cannavaro is not ready for the game with France on 08 September. France has offensive weapons that few teams, even when at full strength, can deal with effectively.

Two surprises were Cristiano Lucarelli, who has never played a competitive game at this level, and Christian Panucci, a veteran who has been outside of the "Giro Azzurro" since 2004.

Upcoming games:

08 September

Scotland x Lithuania
Georgia x Ukraine
Italy x France

12 September

Ukraine x Italy
France x Scotland
Lithuania x Faroe Islands

Here are the Group B standings: (There will be 12 games played by each team).

France: 18 points from 7 games.
Italy: 16 points from 7 games.
Scotland: 15 points from 7 games.
