Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid 3 x Sevilla 5

Courtesy of a live broadcast this afternoon from Telemundo, Sevilla defeated Real Madrid, 3 x 5, in the Spanish Super Cup. This result represents the fifth success for the Andalucian side in the last year: Two UEFA Cups, a Copa del Rey, the European Super Cup, and now, the Spanish Super Cup. They will face AC Milan in Monaco next Friday for another chance at the European Super Cup.

Renato scored a brace for Sevilla in the first half. A hat-trick by Kanoute', especially with two strikes in the dying minutes of the game, defeated the Merengues at the Estadio Bernabeu. Fabio Cannavaro of Real Madrid had an excellent headed goal in the first half, and this game marked the debut of the two young Dutchmen, Wesley Sneijder and Royston Drenthe, respectively. The other goals for Madrid were scored by Royston Drenthe in the first half, and Sergio Ramos in the second half.

Well done, Sevilla.
