"A Historic Day for American Soccer." Don Garber

During a televised press conference from California, David Beckham made his first appearance as a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy. He was introduced by team President, Alexi Lalas. Tim Leiweke, one of the operating managers of AEG, who own the Galaxy, along with MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, and the Galaxy coach, Frank Yallop, also addressed the crowd.

According to the Times of London, 700 journalists were accredited for this press conference. Over 200 met his plane last night in Los Angeles. The crowd, at 10 a.m. local time, was estimated at 8,600. I just looked at Google News. There were almost 2000 articles about David Beckham today.

"I've always looked for challenges in my career... For me, the most important thing is my family. The second thing is the football, soccer. I'll get used to that, sorry... This is one of the biggest challenges I've ever taken on in my career... Potentially in the States, soccer could be as big as it is everywhere else in the world. I'm very proud to be part of that for the next five years. And perhaps a few years after that." David Beckham
