Gold Cup Final Outdraws the Stanley Cup Final on TV

In a surprising discovery, last Sunday's Gold Cup final between the USA and Mexico pulled in higher numbers than the final game of the recent Stanley Cup ice hockey finals.

According to a story by the AP that was shown on Sports Illustrated.com, a soccer final where the only way for fans to watch was either with subscription based Fox Soccer on cable, or via Univision in Spanish, outdrew the Stanley Cup final on free TV (NBC).

"The CONCACAF Gold Cup final attracted 41 percent more television households in the United States than the Stanley Cup finals clincher -- and that was just for the soccer game's Spanish-language telecast."

Please reminder that a household may include establishments, such as sport's bars, restaurants, and pubs, that would inflate the actual reported figure.
