Fugees on The Today Show Tomorrow and Thursday

This interesting story by the New York Times ignited passions seldom seen in this country over the theme of soccer. Perhaps because it involved more than sport. A town in Georgia refused to allow a team of refugees ("fugees") from playing at local fields. Hollywood saw a good story, and will be making a movie about the team, along with their courageous coach, Ms. Luma Mufleh. I discussed the movie deal in a post a few months ago.

“... No more soccer in the town park. There will be nothing but baseball and football down there as long as I am mayor,” Lee Swaney, a retired owner of a heating and air-conditioning business, told the local paper. “Those fields weren’t made for soccer.”

Translation: That foreign sport with those foreign kids with strange names can't play on "our" fields.

Tomorrow and Thursday morning, their compelling story will be discussed on the Today Show during the 08:35 time slot. On Thursday, they will profile one of the players, Shamsoun Dikori, who will matriculate at Pfeiffer University this fall.
