2007 FIFA Under 20 World Cup from Canada

Beginning on 30 June, Canada will host the World Cup U-20 championship. This is the 16th tournament, and will be the largest competition ever hosted by the Canadians. There are 24 teams distributed into 6 groups. The final game will take place on 22 July in Toronto. Several well-known names have featured in past tournaments. For example, Lionel Messi of Argentina won the Golden Boot in the last tournament.

The United States of America finds itself in Group D with Brasil, Poland, and the Korea Republic. The defending champion is Argentina, although two years ago in Holland, the USA defeated them in their first round game. For the third time, Freddy Adu was selected for the US team, who are coached by Thomas Rongen.

In the USA, you can watch this event on Galavision and Telefutura. Toronto should be an interesting locale. I noticed that six elimination round games will take place there. The Toronto FC of the MLS has drawn very well in their first year of existence. It is a very cosmopolitan city, along with a fan base passionate for good soccer. Montreal will also host several games in this tournament, and given their sport's lineage (Olympics of 1976 and yearly Grand Prix car races), I am certain that they will be another popular venue.
