Law 11: Offside

After watching replays of Dirk Kuyt's seemingly valid goal for Liverpool versus Chelsea that was ruled offside, a friend sent me a very interesting link from FIFA. They provide an animated presentation about perhaps the shortest yet most contested of the 17 laws of modern football.

This is an excellent explanation of the law, and FIFA provides several examples. Three criteria have to be met:

1) Is a player in an offside position?

2) Is the player involved in an active play?

3) Offside offense is called.

Please watch the entire presentation.

Law 11: Offside.
