Best Paid Players in the MLS

According to a story by Sports YA, here are the top paid players in the MLS:

David Beckham: LA Galaxy, $6.5 million base salary. *

Cuahtemoc Blanco: Chicago Fire, $2.5 million base salary. *

Juan Pablo Angel: Red Bull NY, $1.6 million base salary.

Claudia Reyna: Red Bull NY, $1.25 millon base salary.

Landon Donovan: LA Galaxy: $900,000 base salary.

Eddie Johnson: KC Wizards: $875,000 base salary.

Freddie Adu, Real Salt Lake: $550,000 base salary.

If I recall properly from last year, the average MLS salary was about $100,000 per year. Many starters earned much less than this figure. The salary cap for each team is a little over $2 million, although each team may use a designated player (Beckham Rule) to exceed the salary cap. Usually, it is one player, but in the case of NY, it is two.
