Four Yanks Take The Pitch In London

In what may have been a historic occasion, four Americans were on the pitch at the same time during today's EPL match between Fulham (2) and Newcastle (1). For the London-based side, Carlos Bocanegra, Brian McBride, and Clint Dempsey. In his debut for Newcastle, Oguchi "Gooch" Onyewu. McBride, who was substituted a few minutes after Dempsey made his arrival, scored his 11th goal in the Premiership. Onyewu hit the post, and had a very good start to his English experience.

This was an interesting development. Especially as two North Americans are days away from taking over Liverpool, one of the storied sides of English football. That will make three teams owned by North Americans (Manchester United and Aston Villa are the others.)

Fifteen years ago, if you would have told me that four Yanks would have been on the field at the same time in the EPL, I would have laughed. In a similar vein, it would have been difficult for anyone to believe that Americans would ever own a famous English side. Both events are now a reality, and prove that great strides have been made. Especially over the pond.
