Andres Cantor: The Best Soccer Commentator

I was just watching the Telemundo weekend sports show, which is called "Deportes Telemundo." Andres Cantor, who hosts the show with Jessi Losada, was on assignment in Madrid. He was covering the Madrid derby between Atletico and Real. He is one of the best commentators in the world, and I always enjoy the personal touch to his interviews.

Tonight, he spoke with Fabio Cannavaro of Real Madrid, along with Javier Aguirre, the coach of Atletico Madrid. Not many interviewers could get a smile from a guy who was ejected from the game. "Fabio, why did the ref eject you?" (It was his second yellow card of the evening.) Big smile from Cannavaro. "You would have to ask him." In perfect Spanish, nonetheless. Coach Aguirre, the former coach of the Mexican National Team, is a friend of Mr. Cantor. He rued some missed opportunities, but said overall, he was pleased with the draw.

I was impressed that Mr. Cantor appeared live, at 0500 Madrid time, to the North American audience. Discussing a game he had seen hours before, but now from a barren but well-lighted stadium. The personal touch that is often missing from sports journalism. The example of a true professional: Andres Cantor.
