Fugees Get A Movie Deal

Soccer may be the least watched spectator sport in North America; however, Hollywood knows a good story when it sees one. After a provocative article by Mr. Warren St. John last Monday in the NY Times, Universal Pictures bought rights to the future book, along with the movie.

More importantly, in my opinion, as part of the deal Universal Pictures will invest $500,000 to build a field for the team, and fund a foundation for the players. Well done, Universal.

What is Mayor Swaney thinking about the "Soccer People" now? Mr. Mayor, you denied them a field. Universal Pictures isn't coming down there to film a documentary about baseball or football, now are they?

“... No more soccer in the town park. There will be nothing but baseball and football down there as long as I am mayor,” Lee Swaney, a retired owner of a heating and air-conditioning business, told the local paper. “Those fields weren’t made for soccer.”

Here is the story by Variety.com.
