11 for Health & Borgonovo: extraordinary gesture from @FIGC & @gianluigibuffon who gave shirts to @OnlusBorgonovo pic.twitter.com/jKOaIKe3GA— Bernd Fisa (@berndfisa) March 31, 2016
Yesterday following a friendly between Germany and Italy (4:1), the Italian squad, led by its captain Gigi Buffon, presented their match shirts to the Stefano Borgonovo Foundation as a gesture of support for the charity.

Former Italian National Team striker Stefano Borgovano lost his battle
against ALS ( a fatal disease of the nervous system which gradually
paralyses the body whilst leaving the brain fully functional) three years
ago. His widow, Chantal was invited to Munich's Allianz Arena to watch the
friendly match by President of the Italian Football Association Carlo
Tavecchio and to allow the Italian squad to present her with their match jerseys.
The jerseys of Italy's starting eleven against Germany will be sold at
auction and the proceeds will be reinvested into research work against ALS
also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
@OnlusBorgonovo & @JohanCruyff & @JCFoundation - more than just a clip. Love life, football & the beautiful game https://t.co/SczV6uPmjM— Bernd Fisa (@berndfisa) March 25, 2016
FIGC, its president, as well as the Italian football community in general
have stood shoulder to shoulder with the Borgonovo Foundation in the battle
against 'the Monster' as Stefano Borgonovo often called it, ALS disease.

Speaking about receiving the jerseys Chantal Borgovano said: "I was
speechless when I got the jerseys. I had been in touch with the President
and Gigi Buffon and whilst chatting we came up with this idea. But to be
very honest I did not believe that this will work out. I am more than
grateful and extremely touched. Even if Italy did not win yesterday, it was
a very special evening for me. Their gesture of solidarity means so much to
me and to the Foundation. And I am sure it would also have meant a great
deal to my husband. I remember that Stefano was the proudest person on earth
when he wore the jersey of the Squadra Azzurra. That's the dream of every
Italian who plays football."
