Goal of the Day for Week 11 in the Serie A: Mauro Zarate of Lazio

Mauro Zarate scored an unstoppable free kick against Gianluca Curci of Siena.

Watch how the ball quickly rises, bends around the wall, and then drops down quickly into the upper right corner of the net.

Zarate has been one of the revelations of the Serie A. He is one of the leading scorers (7), and has adapted very rapidly to Italian football. Last season, he began with Al-Saad of the Qatari League, but was loaned out to Birmingham City of the EPL. When Birmingham City were relegated, Zarate was loaned to Lazio. I think he may have found a home.

In 2005, he was a member of the U-20 FIFA World Cup Champion, Argentina. He began his career with Velez Sarsfield. He has three brothers who play (Sergio is now retired) professional football: Ariel, Rolando, and Sergio.

As one can see, the Zarate family has futbol in their DNA.
