Video of Mr. Borgonovo during his Playing Days

Tomorrow night at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence, former teammates, along with other luminaries from world football, will honor Stefano Borgonovo, a former AC Milan and Fiorentina player in the 80s and 90s who is now afflicted with Lou Gehrig's Disease. (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

The entire proceeds from this game, called "Everyone for Stefano," will fund continued research for ALS via Borgonovo's Foundation.

A Disease that Afflicts Footballers

For some strange reason, over 40 Italian footballers have developed this debilitating and insidious disease.

Former Milan players:

Roberto Baggio (Who will not play but will accompany Borgonovo around the pitch before the friendly). "Borgonovo is a modern hero."

"There is a very great emotion, it will be a particular evening above all for Stefano. We have to say thanks to his great courage, he didn't hide the illness. He made it public and this has to be stressed. Together we did great things (when they played together) then unfortunately we went in different directions. Now we look to the future. To the research against this illness. It is necessary to thank Fiorentina, Milan and all of the public that will be at the stadium tonight. They are the real vehicles of this funding. Fear of ALS? There aren't any to expect. The causes can be extremely varied, there are also many other persons struck by this tremendous malady."
