Italia 2 x Belgium 3: Ciao Azzurrini

Even with a man advantage for most of the game, Italy could not break down a tough Belgian side and were eliminated. After the delusion of Euro 2008 by the senior side, this was another disappointing performance from a team many thought had a legitimate chance to win the Gold Medal.

Near the end of the game, Emiliano Viviano, the Italy keeper, was red carded for striking one of the Belgians who would not return the ball after their winning goal.

Giuseppe Rossi continued his excellent form at this tournament with two penalty kicks. There was some controversy that the first Belgian goal did not cross the entire line; however, compliments to Belgium. They will now advance to the medal round and face the winner between Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire.
