Quotes of the Week in Italian Calcio

“Inter’s victories do not depend on Roma. The trouble is they don’t depend on Inter, either.” ---Daniele De Rossi of AS Roma

Inter play against imaginary opponents, and have Luciano Moggi working behind the scenes...

“Against Liverpool only those who can give 100 per cent and run for 120 minutes will be allowed to play.” --- Roberto Mancini of Internazionale

Because of Fernando Torres, 10/11ths of Inter only had to give 75% for 90 minutes. ;-)

“Inter are known throughout the world as the prestige team of Milan, not only for what they have won, but because they have never had any problems with the law.”
---Massimo Moratti, President of Internazionale

They are also known for what they have lost compared to the other team in Milan. According to Christian "Bobo" Vieri, Inter will have problems with the law very soon for spying on him. ;-)

If you are new to calcio and the Italian language, I wrote an article called "Soccer Terminology in the Mother Tongue." Unfortunately, you will not learn the actual chants (i cori) from the stadiums, useful terms to describe rival players and fans (gli avversari), or how to compliment your favorite referee (l'arbitro). For those, you will need to make a visit to bella Italia... ;-)
