Saturday, 20 October


AS Roma 4 x Napoli 4. Il derby del Sud (Derby of the South) took place for the first time since 2001. A wild game that saw seven lead changes. Argentine sensation Ezequiel Lavezzi opened the scoring for Napoli, and then was equalized by Francesco Totti. Simone Perrotta made it 2 x 1. Then Hamsik equalized for the Azzurri. De Rossi put Roma back into the lead, but it was equalized by Walter Gargano. David Pizarro scored what appeared to be the game winner in the 80th minute, but Marcelo Zalayeta equalized with a powerful header four minutes later for Napoli.

Reggina 0 x Inter Milan 1. Adriano scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute as Inter stays on top of the Serie A table.

Sunday, 21 October

AC Milan 0 x Empoli 1. Bottom of the table Empoli gains 3 precious away points at the San Siro with a goal by Luca Saudati. Milan has only 10 points after 8 league games, but on a positive note, captain Paolo Maldini made his first competitive start of the year.

Atalanta 2 x Torino 2. The Bergamaschi threw away a 2 goal lead and one man advantage as Torino scored two goals in the last 15 minutes. Ferreira Pinto and Cristiano Doni opened the scoring for Atalanta, but Nicola Ventola and Marco Motta got the result for Toro.

Cagliari 1 x Catania 1. The island derby between the sardonic Sardinians and the sage Sicilians. Christian Terlizzi scored for Catania, but Alessandro Matri equalized for the Sardinians.

Fiorentina 3 x Siena 0. The Tuscan derby is a reminder that Niccolo Machiavelli once tried to divert the River Arno from reaching Pisa. They take their water and calcio very seriously in Toscana. La Viola continue their excellent form with goals by Giampaolo Pazzini, Adrian Mutu, and Christian Vieri.

Livorno 0 x Lazio 1. Communist vs. Fascist derby. ;-) Goran Pandev scored the winner for 10 man Lazio for only their second victory of the season. Livorno remains propping up the table.

Sampdoria 3 x Parma 0. Vincenzo Montella opened the scoring for Samp, and Claudio Bellucci followed with a brace.

Udinese 1 x Palermo 1. Amauri scored for the Sicilians, but Gyan Asamoah equalized in the second half for the Friuliani.

Juventus 1 x Genoa 0. Alex Del Piero volleyed home a cross from Pavel Nedved in the 36th minute. At the death, Nedved was red carded. Juve stay right on the heels of Inter Milan. The two rivals will face off on 04 November.
