This was a rare mid-week fixture in the Serie A.

AS Roma 3 x SS Lazio 2. The classic Roman derby was without injured Francesco Totti, who watched from the terraces. Tommaso Brocchi opened the scoring for Lazio, but Mirko Vucinic and Amantino Mancini scored for Roma. In the second half, Simone Perrotta scored the third for Roma, and Cristian Ledesma's second goal for Lazio was a well-taken free kick.

Atalanta 2 x Cagliari 2: The Bergamaschi have been a tough team to beat (only one loss so far). But Cagliari needed a result to crawl out of the relegation zone. Michele Fini and Capelli scored for the Sardinians, as Alessandro Matri and Cristiano Doni equalized for Atalanta.

Fiorentina 1 x Napoli 0. Two of the most entertaining sides in the Serie A continued their historic, but friendly, rivalry in Florence. Bobo Vieri scored the winning goal for La Viola as they move up to third in the table.

Internazionale 4 x Genoa 1. This was the first meeting between the two sides since 1995. Inter proved to be too much as Ivan Cordoba, Esteban Cambiasso, David Suazo (his first league goal for Inter), and Julio Cruz scored. Abdollay Konko had the lone goal for Genoa.

Juventus 3 x Empoli 0. Juve, still reeling from controversial penalties awarded to Napoli, needed to win to stay four points behind Inter ahead of their Sunday fixture in Torino. Empoli had never won in Torino against Juventus, and tonight would not be the first time. David Trezeguet had a tripletta, with a few assists by Tiago, as Juve maintains pace with Inter.

Palermo 1 x Parma 1. The Sicilians have only won once at home this year, and Parma has yet to win an away game. Stefano Morrone opened the scoring for Parma, but Amauri equalized for Palermo.

Reggina 1 x Livorno 3. Livorno surprisingly won their first game of the year in this potential relegation derby. Nico Pulzetti and Fausto Rossini scored for the Amaranto. Carlos Valdez scored an own goal in favor of Livorno. Amoruso had the solitary goal for Reggina.

Sampdoria 0 x AC Milan 5. The Diavolo has had their worst Serie A start in 25 years, but had won earlier in the season at Genoa. Samp is always a difficult team to gauge, and was without the injured Antonio Cassano. Milan ran rampant with a brace by Alberto Gilardino, along with goals by Ricardo Kaka', Yoann Gourcuff, and Clarence Seedorf.

Siena 1 x Catania 1. The Tuscans desperately needed a win, and the Sicilians are in UEFA Cup range (8th in the table). De Ceglie scored for the Tuscans, and ten minutes later Vargas equalized for the Elephants. Massimo Maccarone missed another penalty kick for Siena.

Udinese 2 x Torino 1. Antonio Floro Flores and Inler scored for the Fruiliani, and Nicola Ventola had the only goal for La Granata.
