Copa America 2007 Draw

The draw for the Copa America took place earlier today. Venezuela will host one of the oldest international football competitions in the world. The tournament will take place between 26 June and 15 July 2007. There are 12 teams: the 10 South American sides representing Conmebol, along with Mexico and the USA as invited guests. The USA has not participated since 1995, and declined the last invitation in 2004. The USA upset Argentina during the 1995 edition that was hosted and won by Uruguay.

Argentina and Uruguay have won this competition 14 times. Brasil is second with 7. Pele' and Diego Maradona never won this tournament. Enzo Francescoli of Uruguay won it 3 times. The first two teams in each group, along with two of the best third place sides, will advance to the next round. Brasil is the reigning champion.
