Diego And The Bush Twins

Last month, an unusual thing happened at the Bombonera Stadium of Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires. The daughters of President George W. Bush, Barbara and Jenna, witnessed a game firsthand in the VIP box. Their appearance seemed to anger Diego Maradona, the symbol of Boca, and perhaps Argentina itself. His enmity towards our President, Mr. Bush, is well-known and documented. During that particular game, Maradona refused to sit in the same area, and television cameras showed him far away in the distance.

Today, he was quoted in the Gazzetta dello Sport, about the appearance of the Bush twins:

"He (Macri) let them wear the shirts of Boca." Yes, the famous blue and gold colors that were first patterned after a boat flying the Swedish flag in 1905 at the harbor of the Boca district. The team was formed by Italian immigrants of La Boca, which is also famous for giving us the Tango Argentino.

I complimented Maradona for his resurrection from the ashes of two years ago. He turned his life around, began to travel the world, lost weight, and became "Dieguito" once again for his millions of fans. But I must criticize his words here. The daughters of the President do not represent his policies, and if my enemy is your father, that should not matter. They were in South America on a visit to several countries. The President of CABJ, the Boca Juniors Athletic Club, Mr. Mauricio Macri, invited them to experience a once in a lifetime spectacle that is found only at the Estadio Bombonera.

Maradona has two daughters close to the ages of Barbara and Jenna Bush. If they ever visited the USA, I am certain that he would want them welcomed with open arms if they were invited to a public arena. And not to represent the views of their famous father. Or be punished for them by those who should know better. Whether in North or South America.

Well stated Steve. I don't really have anything else to add to your excellent comments other than to say Maradona has thankfully as you say gotten his life in order but his anger is misplaced here.
